I love this book

I've set myself two language-related tasks for this year. One is to brush up on my long-ignored French, and the other is to learn a new language (Swedish). Once you begin to get a handle on some basics, one of the best ways to learn is to read children's books in your chosen language. They're not just designed to entertain, not at all. Through the use of pictures and repetition of basic words and phrases, children's books teach spelling, grammar and idiomatic usage. They will guide the reader gently through new vocabulary by putting the words into simple context.

"Am I Small?" is a delightful book written both in Swedish and English, so there's never any question about whether you've gotten the right idea or not. But the repetition of Tamia's question, "Am I small?" and the various answers she receives go a long way to teaching basic language concepts. And in the end, Tamia's conclusion is exactly right, and a valuable lesson

The illustrations are just charming, and make this book even more memorable. If you plan on learning Swedish, give this book a place on your e-reader. If you know a child who is learning either English or Swedish -- the dual language text will work both ways -- this is a wonderful gift.

Incredible and timely help

What a refreshing reconsideration of dating.
Many years ago when my daughter was still young I began to forge an idea of how we would approach dating. Something in me told me the way our churches were doing things was not right; there were just way too many cases of moral failure taking place. After some time and prayer I decided that our children were not going to play the 'dating game.' That is where our kids get in trouble. There were things that I felt but could not quite articulate. This good book filled the gap.
The advice given in this book is practical, reasonable and enlightening. It helps the reader understand why it is so easy for kids to end up in sexual trouble before they realize what is happening. It also can help parents set guidelines that will assist a young person in making good mature decisions.
I highly recommend this book for anyone wanting to raise morally pure young people. Don't wait though! Get started now and began developing these ideas in your children while they are young and before they approach that age of 'awakening.'

In a very positive manner, the power of touch in male-female relations, and the power of "cherishing touch" and saving it for marriage is explained. For those who have made mistakes in the past there is hope, and for those who already are living this way, they will be reassured that they are not alone, and their resolve will be strengthened. Grade 1 Up--Victim for centuries of a bad press, Alexander ("You can call me Al") T. Wolf steps forward at last to give his side of the story. Trying to borrow a cup of sugar to make a cake for his dear old Granny, Al calls on his neighbors--and can he help it if two of them built such shoddy houses? A couple of sneezes, a couple of dead pigs amidst the wreckage and, well, it would be shame to let those ham dinners spoil, wouldn't it? And when the pig in the brick house makes a nasty comment about Granny, isn't it only natural to get a little steamed? It's those reporters from the Daily Pig that made Al out to be Big and Bad, that caused him to be arrested and sent to the (wait for it) Pig Pen. "I was framed," he concludes mournfully. Smith's dark tones and sometimes shadowy, indistinct shapes recall the distinctive illustrations he did for Merriam's Halloween ABC (Macmillan, 1987); the bespectacled wolf moves with a rather sinister bonelessness, and his juicy sneezes tear like thunderbolts through a dim, grainy world. It's the type of book that older kids (and adults) will find very funny.

GREAT book for not only kids but ADULTS..trust me!!

I'm STILL chuckling after buying this book and reading it before gifting it to my nephew Greg, 11, and Kayla, 7. And,. as with other books by Jon Scieszka, the huge problem is: I want this book for MYSELF.

The bottom line is that in his version, wonderfully illstrated by Lane Smith, the Three Little Pigs is the ultimate story of SPIN CONTROL. This time, unlike in a zillion other versions, the wolf is telling HIS side of the story -- what REALLY happened. And to hear him tell his story (with all of the familiar elements and a delicious economy of words) it's all a terrible mistunderstanding about his allergy, his desire not to waste food, and distortions by the press.
None of this gives any of this away, since the genius of this is not only in the conception, but in the TELLING of the story. Don't consider this just a book for kids. You can EASILY gift it to friends, relatives, favorite (and unfavorite) politicians and members of the media. It's the perfect late 20th-early-21st century retelling of the story, with the wolf as the poor misunderstood victim (of the police, the media, and his health etc). Just like the old Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons, this works on two levels so the adults will be as delighted as the kids by this story -- which could easily have run as one of Mad Magazine's better pieces.
Get it for the kids, read it for yourself...and get ready to realize what a great gift this would be for adults of any political persuasions. LOVED IT so much...I hate to give this to the kids! Kids of ALL ages will love this story, whether you read it to them or they read it themselves (so will the kids under 40 years old).

A beautifully done spoof on the 3 Little Pigs!

This is an irresistibly silly, great work of comic art!
Yes indeed, there is always another side to a story! A. Wolf explains his side of the classic tale in an almost plausible and sympathetic way. It was all an accident! It wasn't his fault! He didn't mean to sneeze those flimsy little houses down, and now would you have him walk away from a perfectly good ham dinner?
This book is great fun to read, and the art contains amazing little extras that add another layer to the humor. Of course, the audience has to know the old version of the 3 Little Pigs story; not one of the modern, watered-down, nobody-gets-hurt modified versions...
A perennial favorite.

What a blast to read this one aloud!!

Sure it's a good way to get your youngsters to start to think about the possibility that there is more than one "side" to a story, but that would just make this book sound "educational" and where would be the fun in THAT!?

This book is a delightful story that lends itself to ridiculous levels of "hamming" things up when reading it aloud. Poor, poor wolf with the terrible cold that just needs to bake a cake for his dear old granny. Even my oldest child (12 yob) sticks around to hear me read this "one more time" to my younger children.

Before he died in 1970, he treated the world to some of the best guitar playing and in terpretations of music the rock-and-roll world had ever heard, according to the author. Mitchell, drummer for the group the Experience, tells what it was like to be connected to and learning from a master. While he does give de tails of his own life, most of the data concerns Hendrix. Included are "Set Lists" that list the music recorded and played at different concerts and ses sions, and a tour itinerary that lists con certs, club dates, television appear ances, and other significant dates from 1966 to October 1970. Students inter ested in rock-and-roll trivia will enjoy this book.

Well written book with lots of photos

As an old guy who actually went to Hendrix concerts I found this a very good and interesting book with stories and info and perspectives from someone right there in the know. I also read Noels book among others. Nice photos too. I feel this is a must for any Hendrix info buff..

A Great Book

The book more than any other Iv'e read about Jimi really gave me an idea of what it was like to travel with, and be a part of the Jimi Hendrix Experience through the eyes of Mitch Mitchell, the drummer for the Experience.
Mitchell, writes his personal memoirs of his years with Hendrix on the road almost in diary fashion with amazing detail, along with rare photographs of rocks greatest guitarist.

This book is worth it's weight in gold. To hear the story told from Mitch's side is very interesting, especially if you are a drummer. If you were inspired by either Mitch or Jimi I highly recommend this book. The book reveals some very informative behind the scene stories and events (some which are quite historic). One thing that really impresses me is how Mitch talked about his relationships with Buddy Miles, and Ginger Baker. From a drummers standpoint, that is what it's all about, we are all brothers. Reading the book gives you a chance to relive the days of the Experience when Jimi, Mitch, No�l, Buddy Miles, and Billy Cox were rolling full stream ahead. Unfortunately Jimi left us much too soon, thank you Mitch Mitchell for sharing your experience with us. From end to end, this book is a treasure. Thank you for your time.
