So maybe I'm a little twisted...because I love this series, especially our leading couple!

The first Anna Zaires book that I stumbled upon was Close Liaisons, which is part of the Krinar Chronicles. I have never been a fan of Science Fiction romances, but this one just hooked me. Before I knew it, I sailed through book 2 & 3, Close Obsession and Close Remembrance. When I was done, that begin my search for more of Anna Zaires. And of course, I found Twist Me...this was right after it had been released. I immediately one-clicked it and OMG, what a surprise I found! LOL, when i look back, it makes me laugh, because I was so appalled by Julian's behavior, the sexy/very scary hero. Suffice it to say, it was my first "dark romance" and I kept thinking, "how can i be reading this?" Of course, I kept it up...i secretly liked it a lot and I definitely was reading it to the end. So that was my intro to Julian and Nora. I know this originally was a review for Hold Me, but it's impossible not to include all three books in the series. I remember private messaging Anna Zaires and saying I couldn't believe how drawn I was to Julian. Wow, I bet she laughed...and now I'm bugging her for more books of him or I was before the last one was released. Ok, so let's move on to the other books in the series.

Keep Me was sort of a bridge between Twist Me and Hold Me. There were so many things happening to Julian and Nora and there relationship was changing rapidly. I almost saw Nora start to become the more dominant of the two in the relationship. Notice, I said, "almost." I don't think Julian would ever let that happen completely, but he did start to give in to more of her requests or demands, however you would like to think of them. All I can say is that I felt a bit of a power shift in their relationship. Of course, Julian was careful to never seem to be emotionally connected, but there were little tells; it was definitely there. Even the sex seemed like there was more emotion behind it.

That brings me to another point...let me revert back to Twist Me for a moment. Many will say how can you read a book with non-consensual sex? First, while Nora was kidnapped by Julian and yes, I do believe she was scared, I don't think their first time was completely one-sided. She had met him before, was attracted to him, and for someone who is supposed to be a complete monster; he sure made her um deflowering better than what most people have in real life. And while I knew she was in pain, what got me was how he held himself back to make sure she was ok rather than just ignoring her and getting what he wanted. That is why I was able to read this trilogy. I'm not a hardcore dark romance reader, but Anna Zaires is a master at bringing out the darkness while combining it with just enough emotion to make it palatable. I hope I'm making sense. I'm not condoning non-consensual sex of any type...just saying that in this very fictional story, Anna was able to make it work because I could feel emotion in the act.

I know I'm skipping around, but I keep remembering things from all of the other books. Once I finished Keep Me, I just knew there was more to Julian and Nora's story. I was so excited to learn that Anna Zaires was going to release a final book called Hold Me.

I didn't think Hold Me was ever going to get here. I'm a bit impatient when it comes to my books and secretly I kept hoping there was going to be some type of change in Julian's perception of things. Of course, not too much, or he wouldn't be the Julian we love ;) If you have read Twist Me and Keep Me, then you know that Julian and Nora are together. And they have been through hell. I don't know how they survived their relationship with bad guys chasing them, disapproving in-laws and friends, and then of course, there are some events that just made me suck in a breath and think, wow, I'm glad i'm not them. One of the events really hit close to home for me and I had a hard time reading it, but there was no way i was going to not finish the book. In true Anna Zaires form, she addressed it graciously and I admire her for that.

I definitely got my wish. There are some huge changes to Julian and Nora's relationship...some I didn't think he was capable of doing or feeling. At some points in the book, I could feel his fight within himself because he was conditioned to think a certain way, yet there was a desire to change, even if he didn't fully understand it.Wow! It's amazing how parents, bad events, etc can really screw up a person's mind. I was so thrilled to see the evolution of Julian...lol, that's what I call it anyway. Now, don't think he turned into this lovable teddy bear...he is still Julian, never mind, you will understand when you read the book! In addition, we see Nora really come into her own. She is no longer the scared little girl from the beginning of the series. I have to say that I admire her strength and how she stayed true to the love she felt for Julian, no matter how anyone felt. Of course, she had questions, but who doesn't question their relationship at various points throughout.

Hold Me is the ultimate end to a fabulous series. From the first book, Twist Me, all the way through book #2, Keep Me and finally with Hold Me, I got exactly what I wanted. All of these books are definite rereads for me, but I have a special place reserved for Hold Me. It takes society's perceptions as well as personal identities and makes mush out of them. You think a character is one way, in a mold, and bam...Anna Zaires turns your thoughts upside down and the opposite happens. So, I love the book, hate that the series is ending...hint hint, Anna :), and I hope my review will convince you that if you haven't read Hold Me or the other books in the series, you will do so.

I love the way Anna Zaires and her husband, Dima Zales, write. Their books are hot, suspenseful, romantic, and did i say hot? Yep, be prepared for some major steam with Julian and Nora. Get yourself a fan because you will definitely need it ;) I am looking forward to future books from these two. More hints, Anna...Krinar Chronicles, Koram & Mia...a baby?? Ok, i will stop now. Seriously, I can't get enough of her work. And just saying, you won't meet a nicer person.

This is NOT a love story...."SPOILERS"

I really agonized on how many stars I should give this novel and I decided to go with a five because I realized that just because I didn't like the subject matter, I needed to judge the book on its merits. That being said it is a well written book that kept me reading even when it upset me. I could not put it down, literally. It also wasn't the kind of book that one wants to necessarily to read, it says "dark romance", it's dark but this is not a romance. It is a tale of abuse from the perspective of both the abuser and the abused. I'm going to attempt to describe the main characters according to what I thought they were like.

Our "hero" Julian, what a sadistic, controlling, emotionally vacant person. This is your "typical" love story (cough cough) boy sees girl boy thinks she looks like his dead girlfriend, boy kidnaps girl takes her to island in the South Pacific and keeps her there for over a year. During that year he rapes her, beats her (he's a sadist) and threatens her into behaving by threatening the innocent lives of others....that's just the first book...I'm not even going to talk about second two. Like I said, he is a controlling, obsessive, sadistic psychopath....sure he had a horrible childhood but damn. Julian was never going to be normal because of his upbringing, NEVER! He's a criminal. Ok, enough of his bad qualities, his good ones are that he's hot, rich and has a big penis...I mean it, that's it. He is a despicable character, he's obsessed with the girl and doesn't realize that what he feels is love. With even all that the author manages to make his character almost (a big almost) sympathetic. When we see things from his POV, you can see how he thinks and because of that you can see just how (expletive deleted) he is.

The heroine Nora, wow! Poor girl, talk about wrong place, wrong time. She is kidnapped, raped multiple times, beaten and is made to endure psychological trauma. From the beginning she trys to think of ways to get away, trys to remain strong but really in situations like that it'd be hard for anyone. She develops Stockholm Syndrome and starts to love and need her capturer, some would think that that is being weak but double damn, how would anyone remain mentally strong. She's an innocent, caring, strong willed person who's in a hopeless situation and who makes the best out of it. (If that can be possible)

There are people in this world who are just like Julian, uncaring and unfeeling, people who kill innocent people, people who kill whole families as a message to keep others in line or for revenge. There are people in this world who have no compunction in taking what they want, no matter who it affects. This book does not flinch away from this reality and presents this in a heartbreaking way and even though I will think about the characters often, I don't know if I could read it again anytime soon.

In attempting to gather my thoughts on how I should proceed in my review I had conflicting views, I couldn't quite do it and I'm sure at some point(s) I will edit this review. It is a captivating read, you can't but help but think about the characters and try to imagine yourself in that situation and what you would do if you were in Nora's situation. I would recommend this book but beware it is heartbreaking and a hard read. There is a "happily " ever after but the journey, man, what a terrifying ride.

Twiste me trilogy (box)

This was the first series I read really DARK.
It all begins in a manner outside the law, but you find yourself hoping that the bad guy is not as bad as well; that love can prevail.
The plot has many twists; sometimes it takes your breath away.
But what really captivated me was that the author did not transform Julian (male character) into a hero. Nora is not perfect and her psycho / emotional change occurs there, in front of reader's eyes.
It is not a book to be read by weak heart people. Here the important thing is not what is right or wrong, but if the story is believable. And believe me, it is.

I first bought the book on Audible so I could get through it quicker while in the car and then bought the hard cover too for reference. I could listen and it is an all around wonderfully comprehensive book on being successful and whatever that is for you. I think anyone can get something valuable from this book. I really enjoy the narrator too. It has so many references to other great books and resources. You can't go wrong with this material. GREAT JOB JACK!!!

About the Author

Nothing more than a subset of online API docs

Really had high hopes for this title, after examining the table of contents. But the contents are bare bones, and it appeared to me, to be a partial subset of the online API documentation for jQuery and some relevant plugins. Yes, there is a rudimentary chapter on Javascript, but it adds nothing to the knowledge store of an already experienced developer, and would be totally insufficient (unlike Crockford's *Javascript: The Good Parts*, which the chapter specifically references).

Furthermore, there are some major print annoyances -- such as every code listing includes a large text and graphic image indicating code blurb is available for download at wrox.com. Was that really necessary? Could not that have been specified in the book introduction/prefix, where to download the example code? And most of the examples were so simple and basic, even more remedial than the online docs at [...] (or at any of the plugin topics like jQuery templates, QUnit, etc....).

I really feel ripped off of $20-30 for purchasing this title, cannot recall the exact amount I paid on the Amazon order...

More of an Introduction to jQuery

Found this book more than an introduction to jQUERY than anything else. It does cover a wide range of content, but it does not seem to go into depth as much as I would've liked. I think this book would be a fine choice for someone who doesn't have a great deal of knowledge or experience with jQuery.
Some reviewers have noted that there is a wealth of information about jQuery online and someone looking at a particular area of jQuery would probably be better served going online. The book strength lies in that it offers a wealth of information that the reader may not have thought about before. For me it was chapter 14 - "Unit Testing with Qunit".
I would give this book between three stars and four stars because of the lack of depth on the subject matters.
I would recommend this book for someone who is looking for a good introduction into jQuery before they move on to all the online resources that are available.

There are better resources online and this book has little to offer a person who actually knows jQuery and is looking for an advanced resource to better their skills.

If you haven't worked with jQuery before then you will benefit from reading this book but if you have, save your money and do your research online.

I would have rated this book higher but I feel there are too many five star reviews so I'm rating it one star.

About the Author

Nathaniel Benchley was the author of several different types of books, as well as plays, movies and magazine articles.

He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and Harvard College, majoring in English. Shortly after graduation, he married Marjorie Bradford, and they settled down in New York City, where he worked for several newspapers and magazines. In 1941, before the attack on Pearl Harbor, he joined the U. S. Navy and was later trained to command small PT attack boats. He served in the Navy in the North and South Atlantic theaters and was on his way to the Pacific campaign when the war ended in 1945. He returned to New York and joined his wife and five year-old son, Peter. The next year, they had another son, Nathaniel Robert.

Nathaniel Benchley worked as a freelance writer –and painter- for the next 36 years. He wrote novels, plays, short stories, reviews, movie scripts and a very popular biography of the actor Humphrey Bogart. Much of his material was drawn from his life in New York and Nantucket, MA, where the family had a summer home. He found the small town life in Nantucket was rich in characters and material for adventures. He wrote a book titled The Off-Islanders, which was later made into a successful movie called "The Russians Are Coming! The Russians Are Coming!" It was the story of a Russian submarine run aground on a small New England island. Several of his other books were also made into movies.

His sideline as a painter of landscapes led to his participation in many gallery showings.

Mr. Benchley used his fascination with history to create a series of books for beginning and teen readers. His particular interest was in taking a moment in history and examining it through the eyes of a young boy. He told stories about the Vikings coming to what would later be called "America;" Native American Indians dealing with the new settlers in their land ("Small Wolf"); young boys in Colonial America ("Sam the Minuteman" and "George the Drummer Boy") and the movement west; and a young boy who joins the Navy during World War II.

He also wrote a series of books for very beginning readers, many of which were about animals and their special bonds with humans ("Red Fox and His Canoe," "Oscar Otter").

He was always proudest of the letters he got from young readers who had identified with one of his characters and wanted to ask questions raised by their reading. He personally answered every letter he got from his readers.

In 1974, his son, Peter, published his first novel, Jaws, based on his experiences fishing off Nantucket in his youth (and a healthy imagination).

For the last many years of his life, Nathaniel Benchley lived in Nantucket with his wife.

Nathaniel Benchley lived by the motto: "A craftsman is one who does what he is given to do better than others feel is necessary."He died in Boston, MA, in 1981.

Eye opening

This really opened my daughters eyes to how the Native Americans were treated as the settlers moved in. She wants me to read it to her over and over and is always asking me more questions to learn more.

Great book for kids

My 5 year old son can't get enough of this book, that tells it like it is when it came to the Natives in NY. It is cute, nice pictures, yet it is not PC, it tells the truth!

Be Warned...

This book is very one-sided and although it may be factual for ONE tribe in ONE region of the country, it sent the wrong message for my child. The settler is described as looking like "the Devil" twice in the book. Never do the Native American characters do anything wrong, but the settlers were very trigger happy and shooting at the Natives preemptively when the N.A's only wanted to "talk". The book never reconciles the two parties and leaves the reader to believe that white men are the devil and that N.A's are just peace-loving passivists. If that fits your world-view, here's a piece of propaganda to feed your kids...
