Still Walking Tall
By J.S.
What Robert Kirkman always says was his initial focus for THE WALKING DEAD was to explore what happens after the end credits rolled on most zombie movies. "OK, so what's next?" Well, after more than a hundred issues of the comic books, and many tragic deaths to beloved characters, as well as a few truly bad human beings, the post-zombie apocalypse South has reached some semblance of stability again. While this weird calm that has settled doesn't make for crowd-pleasing action or horror, the fact that more than a year's worth of comics have been more devoted to social and character development speaks to Kirkman's dedication to his premise. (And, hey, how about a round of applause to Kirkman and Charlie Adlard for sticking around with their tireless tenacity, huh? Adlard has devoted so many hours to this project I'm sure he's forgotten the names of his family.) Whispers Into Screams was less compelling as an installment primarily because it never seemed like there was a clear and.present danger to the main characters, aside from a cowardly poisoning attempt on a leader. But I'm willing to give Kirkman plenty of patience and time, since he seems to have a firm grasp on what the future holds. I've never stuck with a comics series this long, and, at this point, I'm all in.

Excellent art, gives me headaches
By Andy Simmons
First things first, yes, this is basically exactly the art from the Walking Dead graphic novels. That means that the art is excellent, but also that it was inked with the intent of being "complete" while still in black and white.
What this means for me is that it's great as an art collection, but immensely difficult as a coloring book. Most coloring books are well defined in terms of blocking out areas, but the messy, splatter-filled nature of TWD art makes it hard to color. You think you're coloring a spatter of blood one minute, but then you realize that the "inside" of this spatter is the "outside" of this other spatter, so you're not even really sure anymore what you're coloring. Was that blood, or open air? Who knows? If you don't care about such things, you'll be fine. If you tend, however, to get even remotely meticulous about your coloring, this book might drive you crazy. Five stars for the art, minus one star for not being very good as a coloring book.

great book, layout a bit jarring
By S. Whitaker
I wont comment on the story or art as many have done before. Its awesome btw. I wanna talk more about the actual book and layout of the book. The book is well crafted and came undamaged. My issue is the layout. All of the issues are rolled into one big issue with all the cover art for each issue, with various sketches, at the end. I would have preferred them to be at the start of each issue. All 12 issues just kinda blur together. There are times the the story completely changes time and setting from 1 page to the next. Those appear to be where one issue ends and another begins. Its a tad jarring and pulls you out of the narrative a bit as you try to figure out when and where you are. Knowing it was a different issue would have explained these jumps in time and setting. All the hardcover books are this way. I dont know if the 6 issue volumes or the compendiums are the same. minor quibble, but thought it was worth mentioning.
